ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
JD Morris was born in Coronado, California, and raised in northern West Virginia. He grew up in the outdoors and around firearms. JD was taught shooting to hunt at a young age, and also how to treat firearms with a healthy respect yet not fear. He loved sports, mainly football and basketball. JD also loved to run. This mettle of endurance and athleticism would serve him well in his military career. JD
went to college at West Virginia University. He left school to join the Army and never looked back. JD quickly found a sense of purpose and connection with the men around him. He served for 21 years; 15
as a Green Beret. JD served in 5 th Special Forces Group from 1992-2008. His areas of expertise were demolitions, military freefall operations, sniper operations, intelligence, close quarters battle-CQB, and targeting operations. He trained Middle Eastern partner forces for parts of 13 years in basic and advanced levels of combat marksmanship, tactics, and survival. JD deployed five times under combat
conditions to the Middle East from 1991-2006. He also deployed for numerous contingency operations in the Middle East during the 1990’s. After a medical retirement, JD followed his passion for educating
and training others in self-preservation and self-reliance skills in the civilian sector. He worked with a fellow Green Beret for Jedburgh USA; a shooting and survival training company based in Georgia from
2009-2011. JD took time off from 2013-2015 to take care of battlefield injuries. As he started to heal in 2016, JD regained his passion for service to others and decided to continue teaching mindset, modern
combat shooting, and daily survival and resilience. JD currently works for his wife Janet as the Training Director for OSS2. JD’s off time is spent loving his grandchildren and teaching them life lessons through
outdoor adventure. He is also a relentless veteran and mental health advocate; and specializes in peer support for suicide prevention.
